Shoring
Installation
Large scale projects in urban constricted sites do not
always leave room for open cut excavations. JPC is proficient
in all types of soil retention methods to allow below-street
work to continue in a safe and cost effective manner.

For deep trenching, as well as building excavation, JPC
Group, Inc will utilize one of many types of earth stabilization.
These methods include beam and lagging, underpinning, sheet
piling, hydraulic shoring, soil anchors and tie backs.
JPC consults with professional engineers to review and
design relevant projects prior to commencement of work.
During the planning stages of the excavation, the JPC project
manager will continually review design scenarios with the
engineer and determine the safest and most cost effective
type of shoring. This promotes safety and a well-executed
project. JPC implements individual plans that create a
safe environment for construction and maintain the integrity
of the excavation as well as the surrounding region. These
methods can expedite project scheduling and reduce overall
cost by eliminating large excavations and excessive material
handling.
Shoring structures are constructed of timber, steel,
mechanical, or hydraulic systems that support the sides
of an excavation. Beam, lagging and driven sheet piles
are frequently used for excavations open for long periods
of time. JPC typically uses hydraulic shoring for trenches
during utility construction which have a shorter overall
schedule. JPC will construct the designated systems in
a professional manner while always following OSHA and site-specific
safety guideline. The result will be an impressive soil
retention system that while visible will protect those
on and around the construction site, and after construction
is complete will be unknown to have ever existed. |
Utility
Construction
JPC has worked on municipal projects that involve excavations
over 80 feet deep to achieve desired flows, as well as
common trenches for shallower installation with the added
challenge of working in the middle of city streets around
pedestrian and vehicle traffic. JPC also is able to coordinate
the execution of multiple utility installations. This can
be in the form of large common trenches, which incorporate
electric, communication, high-pressure steam, storm water,
natural gas, and sanitary waste all running next to each
other.
READ MORE> JPC utilizes the proper equipment to install
utilities and ensure that the intended paths and directions
are met. Deep excavations are uniquely performed to allow
for safety at all times while still permitting access for
the utility installation. JPC makes use of trench boxes
and hydraulic shoring to define the construction area and
keep work progressing. With the aid of computers and other
technologies, JPC can also ensure not only precise placement
of underground utilities, but also proper documentation
and recording for future needs.
JPC has a great reputation with local vendors to ensure
material and services will always be available when needed.
This includes hauling for removal of excess material, as
well as suppliers of all types of pipe, stone, precast
structures, and accessories needed for complete installation
of utilities.
Many other projects require specialty
items, and JPC’s
office staff will research the most cost effective and
time sensitive suppliers to meet the engineer’s specifications
while also keeping the project progressing. This reputation
is not only with suppliers, but also with many public and
municipal entities that repeatedly turn to JPC for input
on projects and the comfort of knowing a capable contractor
is completing their project. |
Demolition
and Recycling
JPC offers a single point of contact to remediate environmental
hazards such as asbestos or contaminated soil and demolish
existing structures, as well as prepare the site and excavate
for new construction. Hiring one contractor for these activities
will assist in many ways to save both time and money. This
means the flow of construction will not be interrupted,
responsibility of duties are very clear, and your onsite
representatives will have fewer separate companies to coordinate.
READ MORE> JPC will schedule and direct our forces
to complete the work as planned and work with you to meet
all goals. JPC has experience with private developers clearing
large plots of land for new housing construction, commercial
demolition of large downtown buildings to make way for
new hospitals and hotels, and selective demolition on behalf
of municipal departments for dilapidated homes and emergency
response situations.
JPC also has the capability of recycling all demolition
materials, providing many important benefits for our clients.
First, in a time where respect for the environment is of
such high importance, the recycling of materials can help
meet ecological goals. JPC is knowledgeable of LEEDs requirements,
a nationwide program that is becoming more common on jobsites,
which encourages the use of recycled material in new construction,
as well as the documented disposal of materials leaving
the jobsite. Another advantage of recycling is the lower
cost of certain materials such as aggregate and steel.
JPC has the resources to obtain these products, which in
turn mean lower costs of construction for our clients.
Finally, recycling can also increase production because
fabrication and delivery of products can be shorter and
more readily available. JPC will help ensure both an environmentally
sensitive and cost effective demolition of any site. |
Safety
Our attention to the safety of employees and the public
is not only the responsible and moral thing to do, but
also yields an overall cost reduction to our clientele.
Safe business practices equate to savings for JPC that
are then passed on to the general contractors and project
owners of each project we undertake. The Safety and Health
Department consists of the Safety Director, Assistant Safety
Director and multiple field safety specialists.

Field Safety Specialists
Field safety specialists are
assigned on a project-by-project basis and the number
of specialists assigned to a project varies depending
upon the job requirements. A field safety specialist’s
only duty is to constantly oversee on-site safety practices.
These employees work together with site supervisors
as well as the Director and Assistant Director of Safety
to insure compliance with all federal, state and local
regulations. The minimum training requirement of a
field safety specialist consists of completion of a
30-hour OSHA Construction Safety and First-Aid/CPR
course. Additional training is also provided through
the in-house resources of the Safety and Health Department,
the Risk Management Department of our insurance carrier,
American Red Cross, OSHA National Resource Center ,
Local Unions, AGC of America, and other reliable providers. |
