Norristown Hospital Demolition – Norristown, PA

Duration – 2 months

Client – Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Category – Demolition

PROJECT OVERVIEW

JPC Group, Inc, was awarded a contract from the Pennsylvania Department of General Services to demolish three greatly deteriorated structures at the Norristown State Hospital. The project consisted of asbestos abatement, both hand and machine demolition, cutting, capping & relocation of all utilities and various building improvements including masonry, EIFS exterior, miscellaneous interior improvements, roofing, and asphalt paving.

The demolition presented unique situations in which conventional methods could not be used due to existing buildings and other restricted areas. One building was constructed around an active utility/access tunnel. JPC was required to protect the utility/access tunnel while demolishing the building's heavy timber rafters, slate roof, and masonry walls. Another building was interconnected with an existing structure requiring structural support of the bearing walls and the replacement of the adjoining structure’s façade during demolition. JPC Group’s knowledge and experience enabled us to complete the project without incident during all phases of work.
